Home Automation Using Android

In our day-to-day life, we get used to controlling the home appliances through conventional wall switch boards. But, this conventional home appliance control system is not a convenient method for elders . In the past few years there are so many inventions in the field of consumer electronics such as cellular phone, air conditions, home security devices and home theaters. All these appliances can be easily controlled by a single controller, using personal area network in a home environment. Busy environment and personal limitation the market is going towards the home automation and networking and Bluetooth is an ideal solution for this purpose. In buildings, temperature and other electronic devices can be easily controlled by home automation but high degree of computer work is involved.

About this project

You can check relay interfacing with microcontrollerto know more about it. Relay driver circuit ULN2003 is used to drive relays. You are now ready to control the appliances using the app. You can either use on/off buttons or voice commands to control the appliances. You can control more electrical appliances by increasing the number of channels in the relay. For instance, using an 8-channel relay, you can control up to eight devices.

Pins Gnd and Vcc of the Bluetooth module are connected to Gnd and +3.3V of Arduino board respectively. Pins 2, 3 and 4 are connected to the three relays of the relay board. Pins Vin and Gnd of the relay board are connected to pins Vin and Gnd of Arduino board, respectively. Arduino is an open source electronics prototyping platform based on flexible, easy-to-use hardware and software. It is intended for artists, designers, hobbyists and anyone interested in creating interactive objects or environments.

Rename the 2 labeled value widgets with room1 humidity and room2 humidity and set the inputs as V5 and V7 and map them from 0 to 100 with reading rate of 1 sec. Configure the inputs of history graph as V9 and V8. Put the name room1 temp corresponding to V9 and room2 temp corresponding to V8. Also, make sure that the Permission type field is set to App folder.

The starting from the power supply section, we have the 9V AC input from the secondary output of the transformer. This is the fed to the bridge rectification section that converts AC supply into DC supply. This is done by four 1N4007, 1 A diodes in bridge configuration. Then on the DC output of this section a large capacitor and another small 100nF capacitor is there to filter the DC supply and remove off all AC components from it.

Use five sensors to monitor the state of home namely temperature, light intensity,motion, LPG leak and door/window status. Make the circuit as is given by the circuit diagram. Make the circuit with your selected parts and connect the motors to the circuit.
